Meeting the Minor Gods
Hello Campers, and welcome to another edition of Meeting the Minor Gods! We all know about the Olympians and how they came to be in power, but have you ever wondered who some of the other gods are? Today we will be learning a little more about The Charites!
The Charites are the goddesses of charm, beauty, and nature. They are the children of Zeus and Eurynome, one of the Oceanids.
The most well known Charites are:
- Thalia: She is the eldest of the three Charites, she is the goddess of festivals and banquets.
- Euphrosyne: She is the middle child, she is the goddess of mirth, joy, and merriment.
- Aglaia: She is the youngest Charites, she is the goddess of splendor, adornment, and elegance.
These three were attendants of the goddess Aphrodite, and served in her temple on the Island Cyprus. There are other goddesses also associated with the Charites.
- Antheia: goddess of blossoms
- Eudaimonia: goddess of happiness
- Paidia: goddess of play
- Pandaisia: goddess of feasts
- Pannychis: goddess of night festivities
- Auxo: goddess of spring (Not to be confused with Auxo, the Horae of vegetation)
- Hegemone: goddess of autumn
- Peitho: goddess of seduction
- Phaenna: goddess of light
- Pasithea: goddess of meditation
