“ Gaea, also called Ge, Greek personification of the Earth as a goddess.”
Our great mother earth, Gaia! Oh wait, forget the fact that she tried to destroy us with giants and ruin camp, but that is in the past, I hope we all forgave her! But, welcome to the very first post of my section, Greek God and Goddess's weapons! So, lets hop right in too Mother Earth her self's, weapons (Yes, she had multiple)!
Gaia, goddess of the Earth had a few fascinating weapon, the Harpe is one of them. A Harpe is a sword, that is hooked, like the top is crooked. It is also said, that Gaia passed the weapon to her son, Cronus who used it to destroy Uranus with it, but let's focus on Gaia.
It is said that Gaia never really used the weapon, it says that she gifted it too her son as a gift of power. So, I find that very interesting, because does that mean she made it, or did she find this? Also, Perseus is pictured using this against Medusa in the Greek myth!
Our next weapon is the sickle, a hook with a handle. Information about this one and how Gaia used it is scarce, so I will explain what a sickle is used for! A sickle is used for harvesting grains, vegetables, and other crops with stems. Well, Gaia is mother earth, so it does make sense that she would use something like this!
Our next weapon, the Scythe is also depicted as a weapon of Gaia, but also show as Demeter's weapon. The Scythe is a long wood poll with a hooked blade at the top. A scythe is used to cut bushes or grass. The scythe is long out of style now days, like all of these weapons, because of new tractors and other machines.
That is all for this week's post of Greek Gods and Goddess's Weapons! I hope to see you all around the site some day!
